The AMP Energy 500 (get AMP Energy 500) is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held at Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama. The AMP Energy 500 (get AMP Energy 500) is also one of four races currently run with restrictor plates, the others being the Aaron's 499, the Pepsi 400 and the Daytona 500.
The AMP Energy 500 (get AMP Energy 500) is raced for a distance of 500.08 miles and 188 laps. Till 1996, the race was held in late July or early August but moved to early October starting in 1997.
The first AMP Energy 500
The very first AMP Energy 500 (get AMP Energy 500) was raced as the Talladega 500 in 1969. Richard Brickhouse won the inaugural event.

- The race was moved to early October due to overwhelming fans' requests due to the uncomfortably hot summer temperatures and sometimes unpredictable summertime thunderstorms in the Alabama area.
- During the driver introductions in the 2005 AMP Energy 500 (get AMP Energy 500), Ricky Bobby and other characters were introduced in order to shoot scenes for the movie Talladega Nights.
- Previous names of the race include Winston 500, EA Sports 500 and UAW-Ford 500.
- The AMP Energy 500 (get AMP Energy 500) is considered one of the wildest NASCAR races because of the high number of race crashes.
