A Chorus Line – In Line to be the Next Longest Running Revival

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

A Chorus Line has been one of the longest running shows on Broadway. With the kind of acclaim it received, it is not surprising to see that the musical is again in the run for becoming a long running revival. If you haven’t seen this show, you are definitely missing something. Find a good online broker and get your A Chorus Line tickets today!

A Chorus Line is a highly acclaimed 1975 musical, originally directed and choreographed by the legendary Michael Bennett. The original Broadway production was an unprecedented box office and critical hit, receiving 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Synopsis of A Chorus Line

In an empty theater, on a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete. For 17 dancers, this audition is the one opportunity to do what they have always dreamed of. Not to be the star, but to get the job, to have the chance to dance and come through.

As the show progresses, the audience get to know all about the characters - their hopes, dreams, fears, past and present. Many abrupt twists and turns make A Chorus Line a musical full of surprises. When the show within A Chorus Line ultimately is staged, the hodgepodge rehearsal clothes of the 19 characters have been replaced by identical spangled gold costumes. As each dancer joins the group, it is suddenly difficult to distinguish one from the other. Ironically, each character who was an individual to the audience is now an anonymous member of an ensemble.

This is the story of A Chorus Line in a nut-shell, a story of young and enthusiastic dancers who want to prove their worth to the world and to themselves.

Some A Chorus Line Trivia

  • The musical was derived from several taped workshop sessions with Broadway dancers, known as ‘gypsies’, including eight who eventually appeared in the original cast.
  • A Chorus Line opened off-Broadway at The Public Theater on May 21, 1975.
  • Since its inception, the show’s many worldwide productions, both professional and amateur, have been a major source of income for The Public Theater.
  • It has been reported that James D. Stern and Adam Del Deo are in post-production of a documentary about the musical called Every Little Step: The Journey of A Chorus Line.

A Chorus Line tickets

Probably one of the hardest to nail, A Chorus Line tickets sell out months in advance. Despite the fact that the show is playing at multiple theaters simultaneously, it’s difficult to find tickets. Trust a good online broker like TICKETFINDER.com™ to deliver A Chorus Line tickets right at your doorstep. They are accompanied by many cost cutting and customer friendly options like free shipping and lowest price guarantee options.

Also offered are all sports, theater and concert tickets. 100% customer satisfaction guaranteed!

Coldplay’s Viva la Vida World Tour is Taking Fans Everywhere by Storm!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Coldplay’s current tour is going great guns. With fans enjoying to the maximum, tickets are selling fast. Coldplay achieved worldwide fame with the release of their single “Yellow”, followed by the success of their debut album, Parachutes (2000), which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Both Parachutes and its follow-up, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), were released to commercial success; the latter was named NME’s Album of the Year. X&Y (2005) received a generally positive reception.

From December 2006, the band worked with producer Brian Eno on their fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, which was released on 12 June 2008.

Coldplay have been an active supporter of various social and political causes, such as Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group has also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

After their lightning quick rise to the top, Coldplay took some time putting together their sophomore effort. The band expanded their musical influences, finding iconic British groups like The Cure and New Order for the first time. The members also took time to travel throughout the world, and their second album demonstrates both musical and personal maturation. Although Martin had originally expressed doubt as to whether the band could live up to the critical and commercial success of their debut, A Rush Of Blood To The Head actually surpassed the earlier record in sales and praise.

Some Coldplay trivia

  • Coldplay has been one of the most commercially successful bands of the new millennium, selling over 30 million albums.
  • Cementing his superstar status, singer Martin married actress Gwyneth Paltrow in late 2003.
  • Despite Coldplay’s worldwide popularity, the band has remained protective of how their music is used in the media, refusing its use for product endorsements.
  • On 16 June, Coldplay will kick off their ‘Viva la Vida World Tour‘ with a free concert at Brixton Academy in London.

Viva la Vida World Tour tickets are selling like hot cakes and Coldplay fans are struggling to secure their place on the venue grounds. If you are looking for tickets, online brokers like TICKETFINDER.com™ can help you score them with convenience. You can order from your home and Coldplay concert tickets will be delivered right at your doorstep! 100% customer satisfaction guaranteed!

Wicked – Know What Happened Before the Wizard of Oz!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Wicked is a slightly Gothic yet classy musical. With all the acclaim it has received since its opening, it is one of Broadway’s most popular production. A must watch for all theater lovers, Wicked is one interesting story, and the musical scores are pretty great too!

‘Wicked’ is a fable which is loosely based on ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’, a novel by Gregory Maguire. Also, the musical is a re-imagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic story, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ from the point of view of the witches of Oz. It explores the concept that Elphaba was actually a victim. Her behavior was merely a reaction against a charlatan wizard’s corrupt government.

At the core of ‘Wicked’ lies a truly heartfelt story of friendship and love. The tale of the improbable friendship of Elphaba and Glinda, their conflicts and their eventual falling out unfolds with humor, great music and an unconventional twist on an American standard.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, ‘Wicked’ has won 15 major awards including laurels for the Best Musical. In addition to an incredible musical score, the play has smartly crafted sets which are breathtakingly beautiful.

Since its first official opening on October 30th, 2003 at the George Gershwin Theater, ‘Wicked‘ has been running to packed houses. For all those who have not yet watched ‘The Wizard of Oz’, but plan to, ‘Wicked’ is a must see.

Some Wicked trivia

  • The score of Wicked is heavily thematic, bearing in some senses more resemblance to a film score than a musical’s score.
  • A cast recording of the original Broadway production was released on December 16, 2003, by Universal Music.
  • Wicked has broken box office records around the world, holding weekly-gross-takings records in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and London.
  • The original production of Wicked stared Idina Menzel as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Joel Grey as the Wizard.
  • The show was nominated for ten 2004 Tony Awards, winning those for Best Actress, Scenic Design and Costume Design. It also won six Drama Desk Awards.

Wicked tickets currently enjoy the distinction of being one of the toughest to nail. But online portals like TICKETFINDER.com™ make it easy for fans to order them. You can order Wicked tickets from the convenience of your home and they will be delivered right at your doorstep.

Wicked tickets, as well as all major sports, theater and concert tickets, are offered by TICKETFINDER.com™ with free shipping and lowest price guarantee options. 100% customer satisfaction guaranteed!

LeRoi Moore, Saxophonist of Dave Mathews Band, passes away at 46

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

It was a sorrowful day for Dave Mathews Band as one of their founding members, LeRoi Moore died at the age of 46 on Tuesday, August 19, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. The unexpected demise was due to some complications that arose from the injuries he sustained in an all-terrain vehicle accident on his farm outside Charlottesville, Virginia on June 30th.

The Grammy Award winning group released a statement on their website, confirming the death of LeRoi Moore and expressed their extreme grief over his death. The band also went ahead with their scheduled show on Tuesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, dedicating the entire show to LeRoi Moore. Dave Mathews, singer/songwriter and guitarist thanked the crowd for their presence and stated his everlasting love for LeRoi Moore, saying, “I fell in love with him the day he played the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. And I am still in love with him. It’s safe to say we were all in love with him. It is easier to leave than to be left”.

Jeff Collins, the saxophonist from Bela Flecks and Flecktones has been accompanying the Dave Mathews Band, since Moore’s accident and hospitalization.

Deeply saddened by the loss of their brother, the Dave Mathews Band have started a charitable fund in the honor of LeRoi Moore, that will donate all proceedings made in the name of LeRoi Moore to charities that coincide with his beliefs. Details of the fund can be obtained from http://www.davematthewsband.com/news/.

LeRoi Moore was an immensely talented and versatile saxophonist who played bass, baritone, tenor, soprano saxophones, flute, bass clarinet and penny whistle. An accomplished Jazz musician, he had also played with artists like John D’earth and Dawn Thompson. He was classically trained but considered Jazz as his forte. LeRoi Moore lent an absolutely unique style to Dave Mathews Band with his staccato fused Jazz, Funk overtones and African influence that beautifully mingled with the band’s eclectic rock music. LeRoi Moore also co-wrote many of the band’s songs, out of which ‘Too Much’ and ‘Stay’ became very popular. He often arranged music for the songs written by the lead singer, Dave Mathews.

His death would definitely shatter the spirit of the band and leave an empty space forever in the hearts of the band members.

The Dave Mathews Band has not yet intimidated any cancellation of concerts or tours and are most likely to proceed with their scheduled shows, starting August 22nd, Friday. Concert Tickets for the Dave Mathews Band are available at TICKETFINDER.com™.

LeRoi Moore will continue to live on in the hearts of millions whom he touched with his brilliant music. Whether, it is in the memory of his DMB family or his fans, LeRoi Moore would be remembered lovingly by one and all.

Valhalla Golf Club is all Set for the 37th Ryder Cup Matches!

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

In September, the Ryder Cup Matches of Golf will be played for the 37th time at Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Kentucky. After a wait of two long years, fans will be treated to the spectacle of watching the best names in golf compete for one of the grandest titles in sports.

The Ryder Cup is known as golf’s grandest tournament, and for all the right reasons. To win the Ryder Cup is of paramount importance to every player.

The Ryder Cup matches are essentially played between teams from Europe and the United States. They are jointly administered by the PGA of America and the PGA European Tour. The competition began following an exhibition match in 1926 of a team representing American professionals against a similar one representing the British PGA, with the first competition taking place in 1927. Early matches between the two sides were fairly even, but after the Second World War, repeated US dominance led to a decision to extend the representation of the British & Irish team to Europe in 1979.

The Ryder Cup is played every two years.

An overview of the 2006 Ryder Cup matches

The 36th Ryder Cup Matches were held between September 22 and September 24, 2006 at The K Club in Ireland. Team Europe won the competition, equaling their record winning margin of 2 years earlier. This was the first time Europe had achieved three successive victories. Swedish rookie Henrik Stenson made the winning putt, just moments after Luke Donald had sunk a putt to ensure Europe retained the trophy.

2008 Ryder Cup

For the 37th time, the Ryder Cup will be played between September 16 and September 21. The captains will be Nick Faldo for Team Europe and Paul Azinger for Team USA. The format for the event will not stay the same as in the previous two Ryder Cup Matches. For the first time since 1999, the opening matches of a Ryder Cup will feature the alternate-shot format.
