The Las Vegas Bowl is an NCAA-sanctioned Division I college football bowl game that has been played annually at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1992. Since 2001, the game has featured a match-up of teams from the Pac-10 and Mountain West conferences. The much popular Las Vegas Bowl is an ESPN Regional Television (ERT) owned-and-operated event.

Evolution of the LA bowl

The first Las Vegas Bowl was played on December 18, 1992 and originally featured the top teams of the Big West and Mid-American conferences. In the inaugural game, Bowling Green defeated Nevada, 35-34. From 1997 to 1998, the game featured a play between a representative from the Western Athletic Conference and an at-large bid.

From 1999 to 2000, match-ups featured a representative from the newly formed Mountain West Conference and an at-large bid. The Las Vegas bowl came to its present structure in 2001.

The bowl was known as the SEGA Sports Las Vegas Bowl from 2001 to 2002. With a new sponsor, it is currently called the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl.
