The first ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament

The inaugural ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament was held at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh in March 1954. A total of 39,200 fans attended the tournament which was a sellout. The game matched Wake Forest and N.C. State. Wake Field won and Dickie Hemric was named player of the year. In all, the league grossed $70,252 in revenue that first year.

Since then, the game has been played every year and has, over the years, become one of the most popular and successful NCAA basketball games.
