The 2008 MLB All-Star Game - Baseball Stars Shine in New York City
Major League Baseball’s brightest stars are all set to shine and dazzle the world in the 2008 MLB All-Star Game. The MLB All-Star Game, also known as the ‘Midsummer Classic’ is an annual baseball game contested between players from the National League and the American League.

The MLB All-Star Game was first held as a part of the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. Its onset is attributed to the then sports editor for ‘The Chicago Tribune’ - Arch Ward. Initially, the MLB All-Star Game was intended to be a one-time event but its great success resulted in making the game an annual one. Ward’s contribution to the Baseball world was recognized by MLB in 1962 with the creation of the ‘Arch Ward Trophy’ which is given to the All-Star Game’s most valuable player each year.
The MLB All-Star Game usually occurs in early to mid-July and marks the symbolic halfway point in the MLB season. Since 2003, the pennant winner of the league winning the All-Star Game has been awarded home field advantage for the upcoming World Series.
The MLB Game rules call for each team to consist of 32 players. Currently, the players are selected through fan voting, player voting and manager selection.
The Home Run Derby, a contest among the sport’s top home run hitters, is played on the day before the All-Star Game.
The MLB All-Star Game is one of the most exciting and popular games in the modern world. Bats crack, baseballs sail and cheers reach a fever pitch as the best players battle for the title.
2008 MLB All-Star Game
The 2008 MLB All-Star Game will be the 79th mid-season match between the stars of the American League (AL) and the National League (NL). It will be played on July 15th, 2008 at the Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, New York, home of the New York Yankees of the American League.
The 2008 season will be the final one for the Yankee Stadium before the team moves into the New Yankee Stadium in 2009. Thus, it is seen by some as a fitting tribute to the old stadium that it hosts an All-Star Game in its final season.
