A surefire entertainer - Mary Poppins. For all those who thought that Mary Poppins is too mechanical, too superficial or too over-rated, the musical is a must see. It will definitely melt the hearts of children and adults alike.

Mary Poppins is a Disney musical based on the series of children’s books and hit film of the same name. The West End production opened in December 2004 and received two Olivier Awards, one for Best Actress in a Musical and the other for Best Theater Choreography. The musical features the film’s music and lyrics by the Academy Award winning Sherman Brothers, along with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
The book for Mary Poppins was written by Julian Fellowes. The musical was directed by Richard Eyre and co-directed by Matthew Bourne. A Broadway production with a near-identical creative team opened in November 2006, with only minor changes from the West End version.
Synopsis
At the onset of the show, the Banks are introduced - George and Winifred Banks, their two children Jane and Michael, their cook, Mrs Brill and their odd-job man, Robertson Ay. Things are not going good for the Banks as the children are completely out of control and the parents do not have time for them. Mary Poppins, a nanny having every confidence in her own qualifications and merits, takes charge of the house. Within days, things start to transform and the Banks are happier than ever before. Things fall apart when George is suspended without pay and Mary Poppins leaves, annoyed by Jane and Michael’s tantrums.
Things start to look bright as the second Act begins. The family members begins to understand each other and are no longer afraid to live their dreams and face their weaknesses. George gets his job back, Winifred is a better mother and wife and Jane and Michael learn to be obedient and unselfish.
Mary realizes that with the family reunited and happy, her task is done. With regret she says goodbye and sets off. Jane and Michael accept that Mary has left again, knowing that they no longer need her. The two children watch as their parents waltz happily together and Mary flies high above the audience, disappearing in a flash.
