An Overview of the Major League Baseball
Baseball has always been America’s favorite pastime. The game attained the position of an organized sport in the late 19th century and has since been the nation’s favorite sport as well. Here is an overview of the existing MLB teams which are ruling the hearts of baseball fans all over the world and some baseball information in general.
The MLB teams are divided into the National League and the American League which are further divided into the East, West and Central Divisions. The teams first play in the regular season which runs from the first Monday in April until September. Players and teams prepare for the season in spring training in Florida and Arizona during February and March. Three rounds of playoffs follow the regular season, culminating in the World Series in late October.
National League teams
East - Atlanta Braves, Florida Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals.
Central - Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals.
West - Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.
American League teams
East - Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays.
Central - Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins.
West - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers.

Each team’s regular season consists of 162 games, a duration established in 1961 in the American League and 1962 in the National League. The season normally lasts from the beginning of April to the end of September, followed by the post-season tournament in October.

- American League Championship Series and National League Championship Series-a best-of-seven game series played between the surviving teams from the ALDS and NLDS.
- World Series-a best-of-seven game series played between the champions of each league.
