Grand Festivities Await Fans at the Yankee Stadium – Gear up for the 2008 All-Star Baseball Game

The 2008 Baseball All-Star Game in Yankee Stadium is expected to host the largest gathering of baseball stars ever with more than 40 Hall of Famers joining stars of today. This will be the last season of the Yankee Stadium and for it to host the All-Star events is seen as a befitting tribute by many. To add to fun, the authorities have announced a historic series of activities for its All-Star Summer that will treat fans to a one-of-a-kind All-Star experience as New York City and Yankee Stadium host the Midsummer Classic in the final season of the baseball cathedral.

The Baseball All-Star Game was first held as a part of the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. Its onset is attributed to the then sports editor for ‘The Chicago Tribune’ - Arch Ward. Initially, the MLB All-Star Game was intended to be a one-time event but its great success resulted in making the game an annual one. Ward’s contribution to the Baseball world was recognized by MLB in 1962 with the creation of the ‘Arch Ward Trophy’ which is given to the All-Star Game’s most valuable player each year.

The All-Star Game usually occurs in early to mid-July and marks the symbolic halfway point in the MLB season. Since 2003, the pennant winner of the league winning the All-Star Game has been awarded home field advantage for the upcoming World Series.

The Game rules call for each team to consist of 32 players. Currently, the players are selected through fan voting, player voting and manager selection.

The Home Run Derby, a contest among the sport’s top home run hitters, is played on the day before the All-Star Game.

The Pro Baseball All-Star Game is one of the most exciting and popular games in the modern world. Bats crack, baseballs sail and cheers reach a fever pitch as the best players battle for the title.
