The Stage has been Set for the 2008 NCAA Men’s Final Four!
After a lot of ups and downs, surprises and shocks and nail biting and pulse racing, the four teams to play in one of the most anticipated and loved sporting events, the Final Four, have been decided. The 2008 NCAA men’s Basketball Tournament, involving 65 schools from across the nation in a single-elimination tournament, began on 18 March with the Opening Round game. The Conference Tournaments, 1st and 2nd Rounds, and Regionals followed. And now, the world is waiting for the Final Four. 34 schools received automatic bids while the rest were champions of their respective conferences.
- 1st and 2nd Rounds - Based on their locations, schools were divided into East, West, South and Midwest Regions. The 1st and 2nd Rounds, which were essentially the Regional quarterfinals, were played from March 20-March 23. The Regionals (Semifinals and Finals) followed from March 27-March 29 (East and West) and March 28-March 30 (South and Midwest).
- East Regionals - North Carolina and Washington St. & Louisville and Tennessee played 2 semifinals on March 27. On March 29, North Carolina beat Louisville, 83-73, to reserve a spot in the 2008 Final Four.
- West Regionals - UCLA and Western Ky. & Xavier and West Virginia played 2 semifinals on March 27. On March 29, UCLA beat Xavier, 76-57, to reserve a spot in the 2008 Final Four.
- South Regionals - Memphis and Michigan St. & Stanford and Texas played 2 semifinals on March 28. On March 30, Memphis beat Texas, 85-67, to reserve a spot in the 2008 Final Four.
- Midwest Regionals - Kansas and Villanova & Wisconsin and Davidson played 2 semifinals on March 28. On March 30, Kansas beat Davidson, 59-57, to reserve a spot in the 2008 Final Four.
2008 Final Four
The 2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four Tournament will be played from April 5-7 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. April 5 will showcase the 2 National Semifinals (North Carolina and Kansas & Memphis and UCLA) and the Big Game, the National Final, is scheduled for April 7.
