An overview of the 2007 Indy 500
The 2007 Indy 500 was raced on Sunday, May 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was the 12th Indy 500 sanctioned by the Indy Racing League and marked the fifth race of the 2007 IndyCar Series season. Helio Castroneves started the race on the pole position. The race was televised on the ABC network. Dario Franchitti was declared the winner after leading 34 laps during the race.

It will be the thirteenth Indy 500 sanctioned by the Indy Racing League and will serve as the showcase event of the 2008 IndyCar Series in DIRECTV HD season. The purse for this year’s race will be increased substantially from previous records. The first official entry list featured 39 cars and 32 drivers. Additional drivers will be announced during practice and qualifying.
