2008 MLS All-Star Game - The Jewel in Soccer’s Crown
All-Star Games are an inseparable part of all the major leagues. NBA has an All-Star Game and so does MLB. Could MLS be left behind? Definitely not! The ever popular soccer league also has its very own prized possession, the MLS All-Star Game. Over time, the MLS All-Star Game has become one of the most popular sporting events in the world.
Although the MLS All-Star Game isn’t half as old as the NBA or MLB All-Star Games, it is definitely as popular! Just around the corner is the 2008 MLS All-Star Game and it certainly promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
The MLS All-Star Game has been held each season that MLS has existed. The set-up for the game has been far more fluid than that of All-Star games in more traditional leagues such as the NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB. In most games, the Eastern Division players have played Western Division players.
The inaugural MLS All Star Game was played at the Giants Stadium (home of the New York Giants and New York Jets). It was attended by 78,416 fans and matched the East and West Divisions. The East Division won the first ever All-Star Game with a final score of 3-2.
