2008 SunTrust Indy Challenge - Richmond International Raceway’s Crown Jewel

Over the years, IndyCar races have gained as much popularity as other pro sports like football and basketball. For fans, IndyCar events are no less than the Super Bowl or the All-Star Game. The SunTrust Indy Challenge, one of the most popular IndyCar events, might not be as old as the Indianapolis 500, but it manages to be one of the top-rated races.

Varooming in on June 28 is the 2008 SunTrust Indy Challenge and if you thought getting tickets to this mega-race is easy, you have another think coming. Featuring the same drivers as the Indianapolis 500, the SunTrust Indy Challenge is the ninth of 17 races on the IndyCar Series schedule.

The SunTrust Indy Challenge is an Indy Racing League IndyCar Series race held at Richmond International Raceway. The event debuted as a Saturday night race in 2001 and has become one of the more popular races on the schedule. The SunTrust Indy Challenge has become the most successful race to date held in traditionally ‘NASCAR Country’.

When it was first held, the SunTrust Indy Challenge was the first Indy/Championship car event in the state of Virginia in 48 years.
