2009 Baseball All Star Game Tickets are Already on Sale!
It’s only been 2 weeks since the baseball All-Star Game for this year came to a close. The ‘House That Ruth Built’ was given a final tribute in the form of one of the most competitive and exciting games ever. The 2009 Baseball All Star Game has been scheduled for July 14, and tickets are already selling like hot cakes!
The baseball All-Star Game was first held as a part of the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. Its onset is attributed to the then sports editor for ‘The Chicago Tribune’ - Arch Ward. Initially, the All-Star Game was intended to be a one-time event but its great success resulted in making the game an annual one. The All-Star Game usually occurs in early to mid-July and marks the symbolic halfway point in the regular season. Since 2003, the pennant winner of the league winning the All-Star Game has been awarded home field advantage for the upcoming World Series.
The Home Run Derby, a contest among the sport’s top home run hitters, is played on the day before the All-Star Game.
The All Star Game rules call for each team to consist of 32 players. Currently, the players are selected through fan voting, player voting and manager selection.
An overview of the 2008 Baseball All Star Game
The 2008 All-Star Game was played at Yankee Stadium on July 15. The home American League won 4–3 in 15 innings, giving home field advantage in the 2008 World Series to the AL champion.
By length of time, this was the longest All-Star Game in history and it also tied the mark for the longest game by innings played at 15 with the 1967 All-Star Game. J. D. Drew of the Boston Red Sox was named Most Valuable Player. It was the second All-Star Game in which both the winning run was batted in by the Texas Rangers’ Michael Young and Brian McCann was behind the plate.
