August is here and it is time to cheer your favorite football team as the 2008 College Football Season commences. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) brings one of the most sought after events in United States, The College Football. 2008 College Football season that begins with Florida Gators at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Gainesville, FL, is all set to provide a season of sensation for its followers. The season will progress through the regular season from August 28th to December 6th, followed by the Bowl Games that would begin in December and conclude on January 8th, 2009 at Miami Gardens, Florida. The National Championship Game in Florida will feature the #1 and #2 teams, determined by BCS Ranking.
The religious fan following and the craze that College Football draws can be easily equaled to the exuberance of the Europeans Soccer fans. Fans from all over the US come to venues dressed or painted from head to toe in their team colors. Fantastic atmosphere is created by various school bands that play victory tunes with every touchdown and also by the school songs or cheering songs sung by fans, that resonate through the entire stadium, to cheer-on their favorite teams.
The NCAA, the largest collegiate athletic organization in the world, governs College Football that emerged in 1869 from a Rugby-style football game between Rutgers University and Princeton University. However, the first game that directly resembles the present day American Football, was played in 1874 between Harvard University and Tuft’s University. Since then, every year the College Football season is held towards the end of August and begins two or three weeks earlier than the NFL. Recent changes in the NCAA rules have resulted in the omission of Pre-season games such as Kickoff Classic, Eddie Robinson Classic and the Pigskin Classic. Now the regular season which consists of 12 games is played through December before the Bowl games begin in post-season series that showcases top 64 college teams. Bowl Championship Series are played in order to determine the two teams that would play National Championship Game. The National Championship Game is played at a site that rotates every year between the four BCS Bowls, viz, Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona, Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, and Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Bowl games are an important part of college football games and highly popular. Each year, the college football bowl games bring together the best teams and the competition is fierce. Here is a look into the NCAA football bowl world:
A bowl game is traditionally a post-season college football game; however the term ‘bowl’ has become synonymous with a major American football event and variations of the traditional post-season match-up between two successful college teams do exist. The term ‘bowl’ originated from the Rose Bowl Stadium, site of the first post-season college football games. The Rose Bowl stadium takes its name and bowl-shaped design from the Yale Bowl, the prototype of many football stadiums in the United States. In college football parlance, the term ‘bowl’ can also be used as a verb: as in a successful team going ‘bowling’.

If you are a NFL fan, you have to be a college football or NCAA football fan. College football is not amateur playing at all. As fierce, competitive and popular as pro-football, NCAA football is the preparing platform for future basketball stars.
All the college football action culminates into a series of tournaments which come at the end of each NCAA football season. Here is an overview of the college football season which decides the future of teams of fielded by American universities, colleges and military academies, and possible future stars.
College football remains extremely popular today among students, alumni and other fans of the sport. According to ‘Bill Stern’s Favorite Football Stories’ (1948), the most people ever to attend a college football game was 114,000, for the Army-Navy game in 1926. It ended in darkness, in a 21-21 tie.
The college football season begins two to three weeks earlier than the NFL, toward the end of August. The post-season consists of a series of bowl games that showcase top college teams. The length of the season has gradually increased over the course of the game’s history.
College football bowl games
Unlike most other sports, college football does not employ a playoff system to determine a champion. Instead, it has a series of ‘bowl games’. The annual national champion is determined by a vote of sports writers and other non-players. A bowl game is a post-season college football game. The first bowl game was the 1902 Rose Bowl.
Bowl Championship Series
The Bowl Championship Series is designed to pair the top two teams in college football against each other for a National Championship game. The system also selects match-ups for the other prestigious BCS bowl games. The ten teams selected include the conference champion from each of the six BCS conferences plus four others.
The top-ranked and second-ranked teams are pitted in the BCS National Championship Game in order to crown an unofficial NCAA Division I FBS national football champion.
2008 NCAA football season
The 2008 NCAA football season, or the college football season, begins on August 28, progresses through the regular season and bowl season, and will conclude with the Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game in Miami Gardens, Florida on January 8, 2009, featuring the #1 and #2 teams determined by the BCS Ranking to decide the National Champion.

The news is out! The 2007 Texas Bowl will match the TCU Horned Frogs against the Houston Cougars in a Texas Bowl which promises to be more competitive and exciting than last year. TCU took the place of the Big 12 team when Kansas and Oklahoma were put into the BCS, and Houston, a ‘home team’, represents C-USA. The conferences would receive $612,500 each as per the rules of the agreements as usually, the Big East would have received $750,000 for playing and C-USA would have received a $500,000 stipend for their team playing.
The Texas Bowl is a post-season NCAA college football bowl game held at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. One of the newest NCAA football bowl games, the Texas Bowl was held for the first time in 2006. The game matches a team from the Big 12 with one from the Conference USA or the Big East.
The Texas Bowl replaced the now-defunct Houston Bowl, which was played annually from 2000 to 2005.
The TCU Horned Frogs
The TCU Horned Frogs are currently coached by Gary Patterson. They play their home games in Amon G. Carter Stadium, which is located on campus in Fort Worth. The 2007 Horned Frogs return nine starters from their 2006 defense, which ended the season ranked 2nd nationally. Headlining the defense is All-America candidate defensive end Tommy Blake. On offense, the Frogs return six starters and will be led by red-shirt freshman quarterback Andy Dalton.
On July 23rd, the Mountain West held their annual Media Blitz in Las Vegas, where members of the media picked the Frogs as the favorite to win the conference.
The Houston Cougars
The University of Houston Cougars are a collegiate football team that competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. Their football program is currently a member of the Conference USA collegiate athletic league and is coached by interim head coach Chris Thurmond with Kevin Sumlin taking over following the bowl game. The team plays its home games at Robertson Stadium.
Last year, the Houstons played in the Liberty Bowl but lost to South Carolina.

Since 1997, the Motor City Bowl has been thrilling college football fans across the nation. It is one of the major NCAA football games where most of the future NFL stars shine and dazzle the world with some serious football skills. Always a popular event with a history of big games, big name players and strong attendance figures, the Motor City Bowl matches a Mid-American Conference representative vs. a representative from the Big Ten Conference.

The Motor City Bowl is a major post-season college football bowl game certified by the NCAA that has been played annually since 1997. The first five games were played at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. Starting in 2002, the game was moved to 65,000-seat Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The game is jointly sponsored by the ‘Big Three’ automakers in Detroit - Ford, General Motors and Chrysler.
The Motor City Bowl marked the first bowl game held in the Detroit area since the Cherry Bowl in 1984-1985.
Some Motor City Bowl history
The inaugural Ford Motor City Bowl kicked off on December 26, 1997 at the Pontiac Silverdome. The Ole Miss Rebels (University of Mississippi) were matched against the Marshall Thundering Herd (Marshall University) in front of 43,340 fans. In a game that featured four future first-round draft picks, a Heisman Trophy finalist and a myriad of spectacular plays, the Rebels of Ole Miss edged a feisty and talented Marshall team 34-31. In the end, the inaugural Motor City Bowl proved to be the most exciting bowl game of the year.
Since its first playing, the Motor City Bowl has undergone many format and rule changes. Members of the SEC, Big East, Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference have all faced the MAC’s representative in the past nine years with the MAC having an overall 5-4 record in those nine Motor City Bowl games.
The Motor City Bowl has been rising in popularity ever since its inception and the 2006 match-up saw a record attendance of 54,113.
An overview of the 2006 Motor City Bowl
The 2006 Motor City Bowl, played at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on December 26, featured the only newcomer to the Bowl Division in the 2006-07 campaign. The Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State University made their bowl debut against the MAC champions, the Central Michigan University Chippewas, who won 31-14. Each school made $750,000 for the conferences involved.
The Big Ten did not have enough bowl-eligible teams to fulfill their obligation to qualify for this game, so Middle Tennessee filled the Big Ten’s spot.

One of the oldest college football bowl games, the Outback Bowl, will add another chapter to the its glorious history on January 1, 2008. For years, the exciting game has kept spectators on the edges of their seats and the upcoming game will be no different. Infact, it promises to be bigger, better and more competitive than ever!

The Outback Bowl is an annual college football bowl game played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The bowl was first called the Hall of Fame Bowl from 1986 to 1994. The name ‘Outback’ comes from the game’s title sponsor, Outback Steakhouse. The game matches teams from the SEC and Big Ten Conference and is a culmination of a week-long schedule of events throughout the Tampa Bay.
The first Outback Bowl
The Hall of Fame Bowl kicked-off its first game on December 23, 1986 in Tampa Stadium with Boston College and Georgia. It was the result of years of efforts on the part of authorities to give Tampa Bay Area its very own bowl game. Boston won, posting a score of 27-24. Since then the Outback Bowl has been held every year. The first game turned out to be the season’s best and fans still consider the Outback Bowl the best NCAA football game.
Some Outback Bowl trivia
- Before coming to Tampa Bay, the Hall of Fame Bowl was held at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama from 1977-1985.
- The minimum payout for a participating school in the Outback Bowl is $3 million.
- The 2000 Outback Bowl was the only time in the game’s history that the play went into overtime.
Outback Bowl halftime shows
One of the highlights of the Outback Bowl each New Year’s Day is the Raymond James Halftime Show which features up-to 5,000 participants from throughout the nation. The show includes performances by the college bands and dance teams of the two participating schools, followed by some thirty high school bands from across the nation performing as one massed band. In the end, the entire field is filled with color and sounds that exhilarates the crowd of 65,000 fans.
An overview of the 2007 Outback Bowl
The first bowl game scheduled for New Year’s Day was the Outback Bowl, which was played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, matching the University of Tennessee Volunteers against the Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions. Legendary Penn State coach Joe Paterno was set to return to the sidelines after an accident left him with a knee injury.
Penn State won with a score of 20-10 and the schools each received a $3 million payment for their conferences. The win left them ranked 24th in the nation.
2008 Outback Bowl
The 2008 Outback Bowl will be played on January 1, 2008 at the Raymond James Stadium, Tampa. The kick-off is scheduled at 11 A.M. local time and the game will be aired on ESPN.

It might not be as old as the Rose Bowl or the Super Bowl, but the Poinsettia Bowl is definitely as popular. In its short 2 year life, the game has made a significant place for itself in the world of NCAA football bowl games. On December 20, 2007 the Poinsettia Bowl will be played for the third time in the Qualcomm Stadium at San Diego which has played host to several Super Bowls and is the regular home of the NFL’s San Diego Chargers.

The Poinsettia Bowl is a post-season NCAA college football bowl game that was created in 2005. The event was created by the organizers of the Holiday Bowl and is played annually at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. The game is currently sponsored by the San Diego County Credit Union and is officially known as the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.
In the week leading up to the 2005 Poinsettia Bowl, Navy accepted an invitation to the 2008, 2009 or 2010 Poinsettia Bowls if Navy is bowl eligible in those seasons. The fact that there are several naval bases in and around San Diego contributed to this decision by the independent Midshipmen. The Poinsettia Bowl announced that if Army had become bowl-eligible in 2006, they would have been given an automatic bowl invite. The Cadets wound up with a losing record and were not invited.
The first Poinsettia Bowl
On December 22, 2005, the Navy Midshipmen defeated the Colorado State Rams 51-30 in the inaugural San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. Although Navy and Colorado State had contrasting styles of play, both teams used their explosive offenses to set the NCAA bowl record for most yards gained by both teams with 1,183.
Navy running back Reggie Campbell was named the game MVP.
The second Poinsettia Bowl
The second Poinsettia Bowl was played on December 19, 2006 and pitted the Texas Christian University, a 10-2 team from the Mountain West Conference against Northern Illinois from the Mid-American Conference, who finished the regular season with a record of 7-5. TCU defeated Northern Illinois by the score of 37-7.
Texas Christian defensive end Tommy Blake was honored with the title of the MVP.
2007 Poinsettia Bowl
The 2007 edition of the Poinsettia Bowl will be played on Thursday, December 20, 2007 with kick-off scheduled at 6.00 P.M. local time. As always, it will be held in the Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego.

NCAA football is like the preparation ground for future stars who will one day shine in the NFL, but that in no way reduces the fierce competition of the game. This is the reason football fans love college football as much as the league games. Gator Bowl is one of the main highlights of the NCAA football bowl games. Rushing in on January 1, 2008 is the latest edition of the Gator Bowl and promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

One of the oldest college bowls, the Gator Bowl has been held continuously since 1946. Its current full name is the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl after its present sponsor - Konica Minolta. It is not just a football game, it envisages a whole week of parties, events and attractions for fans of all ages.
The Gator Bowl was first played on January 1, 1946 pitting South Carolina against Wake Forest. For over 60 years, the game has showcased 4 Heisman Trophy winners and more than 180 first team All-Americans. A few of the great legends who are part of the Gator Bowl mystique include coaches and players like Dan Marino, Archie Manning, Paul Bryant, Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden.
Before 1993, the usual venue for the games was the Gator Bowl Stadium. However, the stadium was destroyed while constructing the ALLTEL Stadium (home base for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars), on the same place. During the construction works, namely in 1994, the game was held in Gainesville, Florida. The following 1996 game, which was moved to the 1st of January, and all the games to follow took place at ALLTEL Stadium.
Former sponsors of the Gator Bowl have included Mazda and most recently Toyota.
The Gator Bowl not only provides first-rate athletic entertainment but also spurs the local economy and raises funds for charity. Special focus is kids, as can be seen in many of the events surrounding the game. These include a 5K Run in which donors have the option to ‘Run For A Child’ who is a patient at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, the Winn-Dixie Hometown Gator Bowl Parade preceded by a Little Red Wagon Pull, a kid-friendly tailgate party.
Local businesses make tickets to the game available to youth organizations, local children participate in a pre-game dance show and kids take over the field right after the game for rounds of flag football.
2008 Gator Bowl
The 2008 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl marks the 63rd game for the Gator Bowl Classic. The match-up will showcase a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference to play against a team from the Big 12 Conference, the Big East Conference or Notre Dame. Jacksonville Municipal Stadium has been ramped up by more than 11,000 for the 2008 Gator Bowl.

The NCAA football bowl season has quiet a few star-studded events and the Orange Bowl is definitely among them. To win the Orange Bowl is an unmatched honor and players struggle to nail the title. The scene is set for the 2008 FedEx Orange Bowl and the Dolphin Stadium is all set to receive football stars in the making.

The Orange Bowl is an annual college football game that is usually played in the first week of January. The game was played at Miami Field from 1935 to 1937, the Miami Orange Bowl from 1938 to 1995 and was moved to Dolphin Stadium in 1996. The corporate title sponsor has been FedEx since 1989 and the official title of the game is the FedEx Orange Bowl.
Orange Bowl history
Miami inaugurated its football game as part of the Miami Palm Festival in 1933. It was such a hit that it earned its own stadium, named the Orange Bowl to match the game which was christened so in 1935. From 1953 through 1963 and 1975 through 1994, the Orange Bowl featured the Big 8 champion against an at-large opponent. During the intervening years, the Big 8 champion or runner-up often played in the Orange Bowl, but did not get an automatic invitation.
To rid itself of the title of the ‘other bowl game’, the Orange Bowl became a night game in 1965 and has been so since. Since 1998, with the creation of the Bowl Championship Series system, team selection for the Orange Bowl is now tied into the other three BCS Bowls.
Orange Bowl today
As the second-oldest bowl game, as well as the second-most-recognized football stadium for college play, the Orange Bowl has, over the years, developed a fan base willing to buy as many tickets as there were seats. Today, the game is dominated by Miami University, Florida State and the University of Florida. Nebraska has been a popular opponent, appearing six times in the 1990s.
2008 FedEx Orange Bowl
The 2008 FedEx Orange Bowl game is part of the 2007-08 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) of the 2007 NCAA Division I football season. The Orange Bowl 2008 will be played on January 3, 2008 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Some publishers have released their pre-season bowl predictions. Fox Sports predicts Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia while Rivals.com is predicting Virginia Tech vs. Oklahoma.

Why shiver in the Winter with curtains drawn when you can bask in the sun in Shreveport, Louisiana and watch all the 2007 Independence Bowl action live? The 2007 Independence Bowl clash pits teams from the football-loving SEC and Big 12 Conference. It just can’t get more exciting than this!

If you love football or sports in general, you will surely enjoy the Independence Bowl. The PetroSun Independence Bowl is a post-season NCAA sanctioned Division I college football bowl game that is played annually at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana, so named because it was inaugurated in the United States bicentennial year, 1976.
Some Independence Bowl history
The Independence Bowl can trace its roots back to 1975 when the board of directors of the Shreveport-Bossier City Sports Foundation conceived the idea of bringing a post-season football game to northwest Louisiana. Applying to the National Collegiate Athletic Association for certification, the group’s efforts were rewarded with the approval of a December 13, 1976 game.
For its first 5 years, the game pitted the champion of the Southland Conference against an at-large opponent. It then moved to inviting two at-large teams, until 1995 when it began featuring a Southeastern Conference school against an at-large opponent.
Since 1998 the game has normally featured a match-up between teams representing the Big 12 Conference and the SEC.
Independence Bowl - the name
In honor of the United States’ 200th birthday, and the strong military presence in the Shreveport-Bossier City area, the Sports Foundation’s board of directors felt that the name ‘Independence Bowl’ would be a fitting tribute to the men and women who have fought for the United States’ freedom and independence. Thus the post-season game was named the ‘Independence Bowl’.
2006 Independence Bowl - the most exciting game
After 30 successful and memorable years, the Independence Bowl embarked upon a new era in the game’s history in 2006. On August 21, the Independence Bowl partnered with PetroSun, Inc., giving the bowl its fourth title sponsor. 4 months later, one of the most exciting games in Independence Bowl history was played in front of more than 45,000 fans at Independence Stadium, as the Alabama Crimson Tide fell to the Oklahoma State Cowboys 34-31.
2007 PetroSun Independence Bowl
The 2007 Independence Bowl will be played on December 30, 2007 at the Independence Stadium in Shreveport, LA. We don’t know the teams yet but one thing is for sure - it will an exciting game and will feature future football stars.

The BCS National Championship game is like the Super Bowl of NCAA football. If you are a sports enthusiast, you will definitely enjoy the BCS National Championship game and to drive football fans into a frenzy once again, the 2008 BCS National Championship Game is on its way! Get ready for the fun, frolic and excitement that only a BCS title game can bring with it.

The BCS National Championship Game or BCS title game is the final bowl game of the annual Bowl Championship Series. It features the #1 and #2 college football teams in the nation as determined by a combination of polls and computer formulas.
BCS title game - the beginning
In years past, the BCS comprised of four games - the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl. Then a fifth bowl game was added - the BCS National Championship Game. An ‘unofficial’ competition at first, the BCS title game gained an official status in 1998. Today, all Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision schools and conferences contractually agreed to participate in the BCS, making it the first ‘true’ national championship to involve all the major conferences.
Initially, it was anticipated that a fifth bowl would be added to the Championship Game rotation, potentially the Cotton Bowl or Capital One Bowl. However, the organizers ultimately settled on a format where the existing BCS bowls would host a second annual game on a rotating basis, that would take place one week after New Year’s Day. The teams participating in the BCS National Championship Game have always been the top two teams in the BCS rankings.
The BCS title game trophy
The AFCA National Championship Trophy is the trophy awarded by the AFCA to the winner of college football’s BCS National Championship Game, which determines the national champion for purposes of the Coaches Poll. The trophy has been awarded since 1986.
The trophy consists of a Waterford Crystal football affixed to an ebony base and carries a value of over $30,000. The winning school retains permanent possession of the trophy, as a new one is awarded every year. As the sponsor obtains naming rights to the trophy, its current name is actually the ‘ADT National Championship Trophy’.
The 2008 BCS National Championship Game
The 2008 Allstate BCS National Championship Game will be played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on Monday, January 7, 2008. Last season was shocking as the Florida Gators upset of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Although we don’t know which teams will be playing in the 2008 BCS National Championship Game, one thing is for sure, it will be a treat for all football lovers.

The Fiesta Bowl, also known as the ‘Festival of College Football’, is an amazing game which, due to its flawless execution, has cemented its position as the top bowl game and festival of events in the nation. Since the Fiesta Bowl’s first game, it has generated an economic impact of more than $2 billion to the state’s economy and paid more than $370 million to universities and colleges.

The Fiesta Bowl, now sponsored by Tostitos tortilla chips, is a United States college football game played annually since 1971. Originally, the game was hosted at the Sun Devil Stadium, Arizona where it remained until 2006. University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona is the current venue.
In 1998 the Fiesta Bowl became a part of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS).
The beginning of the celebration
It all started in 1968 when former Arizona State University President G. Homer Durham spoke to an athletic awards banquet and proposed that Phoenix should have a football bowl game. Countless efforts on the part of Arizona’s football enthusiasts culminated into the first Fiesta Bowl which was played on December 27th, 1971.
The inaugural game featured top-ten Arizona State squad against top-twenty opponent Florida State. By 1975, the game was able to attract Big Eight co-champion Nebraska to play undefeated Arizona State in a match-up of top-five teams. In 1977, the game was again able to attract a top-five opponent in Penn State.
A major Fiesta Bowl breakthrough occurred in 1986 when the top two teams in the country, Miami and Penn State, agreed to play for the de facto national championship in the Fiesta Bowl. At the time, the ‘big four’ bowl games, the Cotton, Orange, Sugar and Rose, had contracts with the major conferences whose champions were guaranteed selection. The champs agreeing to play the Fiesta Bowl gave it a special designation among the Bowl Games.
The rest is history, or rather Fiesta Bowl history.
The Fiesta Bowl 2008
The 2008 Fiesta Bowl, the 37th edition of the game, will be played on January 2nd, 2008, at the University of Phoenix Stadium, Arizona. Some publishers have released their pre-season bowl predictions. Fox Sports predicts Louisville versus Texas while Rivals.com is predicting Wisconsin versus Texas.

If you are a football fan, there is no better way to start 2008 than watching the 2008 Rose Bowl live at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena. The Rose Bowl sets the top college team of the Pacific 10 Conference against the top college team of the Big Ten. Though we may not know the teams yet, one thing is for sure - it will the experience of a lifetime.
Nicknamed ‘The Granddaddy of Them All’, the Rose Bowl is the oldest and, over the course of its history, the most prestigious bowl game. It is part of the annual Tournament of Roses event, which also includes the Tournament of Roses Parade.

The Rose Bowl’s history
The Rose Bowl has, at the very core of its conception, a rich and colorful story. It started with the Tournament of the Roses - a grand celebration of life and the new year. The first Tournament of Roses was staged in 1890 by members of Pasadena’s Valley Hunt Club, former residents of the East and Midwest eager to showcase their new home’s mild winter weather.
Originally titled the Tournament East-West football game, the Rose Bowl was first played on January 1, 1902, starting the tradition of New Year’s Day bowl games. The inaugural game featured Fielding Yost’s dominating 1901 Michigan team, representing the East, who crushed a team from Stanford University, representing the West, by a score of 49-0.
The lopsided score prompted the Tournament to give up football in favor of Roman-style chariot races. In 1916, football returned to stay and the crowds soon outgrew the stands in Tournament Park.
The Tournament of Roses has come a long way since its early days. The Rose Parade’s elaborate floats now feature high-tech computerized animation and exotic natural materials from around the world. Although a few floats are still built exclusively by volunteers from their sponsoring communities, most are built by professional float building companies and take nearly a year to construct.
Given its long existence, it should surprise no one that the game has had its share of historic firsts. In 1927, it was the first sporting event broadcast nationwide on radio. In 1952, it was the first college football game televised nationally.
