It was the first venue of the 2007 NASCAR schedule to host the Car of Tomorrow.

The first Food City 500
The very first Food City 500 (get Food City 500 tickets) was held on October 22, 1961 and covered a distance of 250 miles. It was known as the Southeastern 500 then. Joe Weatherly managed to win the said race and get NASCAR's Most Popular Driver Award the same year. NASCAR's Most Popular Driver Award is the one given to the favorite NASCAR driver from the fans' point of view. Weatherly took home a purse of $3,680.
