PRO BASEBALL All-Star Game
The Pro Baseball All-Star Game (get Pro Baseball All-Star Game tickets), popularly known as the 'Midsummer Classic', is an annual baseball game between players from the National League (NL) and the American League(AL). Players are currently selected by fan vote for the starting positions and by the respective managers for pitchers and reserve players. The Pro Baseball All-Star Game (get Pro Baseball All-Star Game tickets) usually occurs in early to mid-July and marks the symbolic halfway point in the PRO BASEBALL season.
As far as All-Star spectacles go, Pro Baseball All-Star Game (get Pro Baseball All-Star Game tickets) is the Pro Bowl of baseball. Unlike the NFL's Pro Bowl, which wandered aimlessly until it landed in Honolulu, baseball's All-Star version has been a hit right from its inception.
The beginning of the PRO BASEBALL All-Star Game
The first Pro Baseball All-Star Game (get Pro Baseball All-Star Game tickets) was held as a part of the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago in the Comiskey Park. Its onset is attributed to the then sports editor for 'The Chicago Tribune' - Arch Ward. Ward's contribution was recognized by the league in 1962 with the creation of the 'Arch Ward Trophy' which is given to the All-Star Game's most valuable player each year.
Originally, the All-Star Game (get Pro Baseball All-Star Game tickets)) was supposed to be a one time event but its unexpected popularity and success resulted in making the game an annual one. Comiskey Park sold more than 49,000 tickets for the initial All-Star Game. It is interesting to note that tickets to the first game have become highly valuable and buyer bid the highest prices to possess one today.
Babe Ruth hit the first ever PRO BASEBALL All-Star Game Home Run.
Selection of Pro Baseball Players
As of 2007, the rules call for each team to consist of 32 players. These players are currently selected though the following Pro Baseball Policies:
1. Fan voting: Baseball fans vote on the starting position players for the All-Star Game, with ballots distributed at PRO BASEBALL games before mid-season and online.
2. Player voting: Pitchers and one back-up player for each position are elected by the players.
3. Manager selection: The managers of the 30 PRO BASEBALL teams and the Commissioner's Office fill the roster up to 31 players.
4. Final vote: After the lists of 31 players for each league is announced, fans vote for one additional player.
5. Replacements: After the roster is selected, the manager and the Commissioner's Office replace players who are injured or who decline to participate.
Since 2003, the pennant winner of the league winning the All-Star Game (get Pro Baseball All-Star Game tickets) has been awarded home field advantage for the upcoming World Series.
