Pro Big League Baseball
Pro Baseball is the highest level of play for the national game in the United States. It is generally considered to be one of the big four major league sports events in the USA, the others being the NFL (view NFL tickets), NBA (view NBA Basketball tickets) and the NHL (view NHL tickets online). Pro Baseball was formally formed in 1869 and is thus one of the oldest sports leagues ever formed in the world.
Pro Baseball is actually composed of two "individual" leagues - the American League and the National League. Pro Baseball is the controlling body operating these two leagues ever since an agreement made in 1903.
Format of the Major League Season
The Pro Baseball season typically starts towards the end of April and lasts straight through September. This is known as the regular season during which each team play a total of 162 games. The month of October sees the post-season tournament take place. However, over the past few years the season duration has been quite erratic, with the season itself lasting till the end of October.
The post season sees three major game series take place- the World Series, League Championship Series and the Division Series. There are a total of 30 teams in the league, 16 from the National League and 15 from the American League. Each of these leagues is further divided into divisions geographically.
