The NCAA basketball championship started in 1939, and since then it has built a legacy around itself by dishing out some awesome performances and thus creating legendary teams. The popularity of the sporting event can be judged by the fact that all games are covered live nationwide by ESPN, a major sports broadcaster. It has become an unofficial national pastime over the past few years, attracting expert fans and critics.

The tournament is held across both the men and women categories. Each category is further sub divided into three divisions, referred to as the West Regional's, East Regional's and the South Regional's thus bringing the total to 6 simultaneous competitions. The one that has the highest regard is The NCAA Men's (and Women's) Division I Basketball Championship. It is held in March each year, thus giving it the name 'March Madness' due to the hype and fan frenzy that surrounds the competition each year.
